Verkhovna Rada formalizes Ukraine’s EU and NATO course in constitution
The Verkhovna Rada adopted the amendments to Constitution of Ukraine considering the state’s strategic course towards EU and NATO membership.

As reported by Censor.NET, 334 MPs voted for the amendments.

The amendments supplement the constitution's preamble by confirming the European identity of the Ukrainian people and the irreversibility of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic course.

The articles defining the powers of the Verkhovna Rada, the president and the government will be supplemented by provisions on the implementation of the state’s strategy to obtain membership in the EU and NATO.

The document also excludes the norm in the constitution allowing the use of existing military bases in Ukraine territory for the temporary stay of foreign military on a rental basis.
