Parliament bans Poplavskyi, Kivalov and other MPs who voted for the "Laws of Jan. 16" from heading universities

The Verkhovna Rada has banned MPs who voted for the "Laws of Jan. 16" in 2014, from heading higher education establishments.
Bill #2599-1 was passed in principle by 226 deputies with 226 required, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainian News.
In addition, the post of head of the university cannot be a convicted felon, as well as a person who is legally incompetent or found guilty of corruption.
Also, the head of the university cannot be a person subject to the law "On the purging of power" (a person who held highest public office from Feb. 25, 2010 to Feb. 22, 2014).
Among those who voted for the "Laws of Jan. 16" were MPs Mykhailo Poplavskyi (rector of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Art) and Serhii Kivalov (rector of the Odesa Law Academy).
