As a result of Russian aggression, 2.5 million Ukrainian citizens have had their homes destroyed or damaged, and more than 170,000 people have had their homes completely destroyed.

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk, reports Censor.NЕТ with reference to Ukrinform.

"When we talk about destroyed or damaged housing, 2.5 million people is a large number. When we talk about completely destroyed housing, what is currently in the register (the Register of Damaged and Destroyed Property - ed.) is 170 thousand people. And this does not include the temporarily occupied territories, where we cannot yet count the destroyed housing," said Vereshchuk.

The Minister added that today 200 thousand citizens live in places of compact residence. According to the official, Ukraine has sufficient capacity to provide temporary housing for evacuees. In particular, 25 modular towns have been built to date, housing about 5,000 people.

At the same time, Ms. Vereshchuk emphasized that it is necessary to look for other forms of accommodation that "will provide the greatest socialization and adaptation." Another challenge, in her opinion, is the employment of IDPs.

"Of the working-age IDP population, 66% are unemployed... We understand that it is the state that needs to make efforts, to look for tools for employers. We need to find ways to retrain people who cannot do it at their own expense. To do this, we have a voucher program. We are making efforts to expand it so that this year 10 thousand IDPs will be retrained at the expense of the state," the Vice Prime Minister said.

Currently, 4,857,200 internally displaced persons are officially registered in Ukraine.
