Arrest of Putin at the BRICS summit is legal, international law is clear, - Baerbock
This is reported by the German newspaper Zeit with reference to the minister's words, Censor.NET reports with reference to LigaBusinessInform.
Burbok called for compliance with international law at the upcoming BRICS summit in South Africa, which Putin may attend.
"For now, international law is clear. International law is clear: war criminals responsible for waging wars of aggression will one day be brought to justice," Burbok said.
She said this after the meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States in Wismar, Germany.
Burbock said the BRICS summit made it clear that brutal war of aggression and violations of the international order have consequences for every aggressor and war criminal.
She noted that South Africa has already made it clear that it is a member of the ICC.
"This makes it even clearer that this Russian war of aggression is not a purely European affair, but that it affects the whole world," she said.
South Africa is a signatory to the Rome Statute, and therefore is obliged to arrest Putin if he appears on the country's territory.
