The Croatian government today supported the initiative of the parliament to recognize the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to Nova.

"We support the initiative put forward by the parties in the Croatian parliament," said Prime Minister Andrii Plenkovic during the open part of the government meeting.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Croatia, Zdenko Lučić, said that the proposed declaration of the Croatian Parliament designates the Holodomor as a violent famine that was deliberately organized by the communist Stalinist regime in Ukraine in the period 1932-1933.

Lucich added that this is a crime of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

After the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, consideration of the question of recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people was raised in a number of countries. During this time, the parliaments of Great Britain, Slovenia, Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Moldova, the Czech Republic, Germany, Iceland, and France recognized the Holodomor as genocide.

On December 15, 2022, the European Parliament supported the resolution recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. MEPs also called on Russia, as the legal successor of the USSR, to apologize for the actions of the Soviet regime against Ukraine.
