The Verkhovna Rada supported in general the draft law No. 8011, which allows military personnel to store their reproductive cells in cryobanks free of charge.

This was reported by people's deputy from political party "Voice" Yaroslav Zheleznyak, as Censor.NET informs.

"For" voted 271 people's deputies.

Under the law, the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to remove and store their reproductive cells free of charge, so that in case of injury at the front that affects sexual functions, men and women can later have children.

Police officers, employees of the State Emergency Service, persons of the commanding staff of the Special Operations Directorate of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, employees of the State Criminal-Executive Service who directly participate in hostilities also received the corresponding right.

Reproductive cells will be stored by cryopreservation - freezing them by immersing the biomaterial in liquid nitrogen with a very low temperature. Oocytes, sperm and embryons preserved in this way can be stored for many years.

The explanatory note to the bill states that, according to the calculations of medical institutions, the cost of taking germ cells is about 450 hryvnia for men and about 1425 hryvnia for women. The necessary medical examinations before taking cells from healthy citizens can be carried out during military-medical expert commission.
