UN International Court of Justice to rule on admissibility of Ukraine’s ’genocide’ complaint against Russia on 2 February

"On Friday, 2 February 2024, the International Court of Justice will rule on the preliminary objections raised by the Russian Federation in the case concerning charges of genocide under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide," the statement said.
The decision will be announced at 3:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. Kyiv time).
If the court finds Ukraine's complaint partially or fully admissible, the case will then proceed to the merits.
Details of the case
In its lawsuit against Russia, Ukraine seeks to bring the aggressor to justice for distorting the concept of genocide in the International Court of Justice.
On 26 February 2022, Ukraine filed an application with the Secretariat of the International Court of Justice in The Hague to initiate a case against Russia regarding "a dispute ... concerning the interpretation, application, and implementation of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide".
Since October 2022, Russia has raised preliminary objections to the Court's jurisdiction and admissibility of Ukraine's application.
On 16 March 2022, the International Court of Justice ordered the Russian Federation to immediately cease its invasion of Ukraine.
