Border guards detained a man near the border with Slovakia, who turned out to be a deputy of one of the city councils of the Cherkasy region, who is accused, in particular, of justifying and denying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
This was reported by the State Border Service, Censor.NET reports.
As noted, the border guards of the Chopsky region detained a citizen of Ukraine who tried to illegally cross the Ukrainian-Slovak border. He was discovered by the border squad of the "Veliky Berezny" department during patrolling several hundred meters from the state border. An unknown person, who was walking in the direction of Slovakia, was stopped near the barrier fence.
During the verification measures, it was established that the detainee is a deputy from one of the city councils of the Cherkasy region, who is accused of committing a criminal offense provided for in part 2 and part 3 of article 436-2 of the Criminal Code "Justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of armed aggression by the Russian federation against Ukraine, glorification of its members".
The State Border Service reported that the man was taken to the border unit for the purpose of bringing to administrative responsibility Article 204-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses "Illegal crossing or attempt to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine." After carrying out the necessary measures, the detainee was handed over to the employees of the relevant law enforcement agencies.
According to the SSU Office in Cherkasy region, a deputy of the banned OPFL party in Chyhyryn was detained while trying to illegally cross the border of Ukraine with Slovakia.
In March of this year, the SSU served the official with a notice of suspicion for justifying Russian war crimes and denying armed aggression against Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the defendant, being an ideological supporter of racism, has publicly supported the Kremlin's policy since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Among his own circle, the agitator spread hostile narratives about the socio-political situation in our country. He shared videos, reels and messages of open Russian propaganda and hostile IPSOs in his correspondence.
It was also found that he proactively contacted Volodymyr Oliynyk, a former deputy of the banned Party of Regions, who is now a fugitive from justice in Russia. In his messages to the former Party of Regions member, he sent disinformation about the Security and Defense Forces in the frontline regions, discrediting the Ukrainian military.
The SSU reported that the deputy was under nightly house arrest, but decided to flee abroad. The suspect was detained on an unsuccessful attempt to cross the Ukrainian-Slovak border. The court imposed an enhanced measure of restraint on him - round-the-clock house arrest with the wearing of electronic monitoring devices.
