Starting in November, UNICEF will allocate UAH 203.35 million for 700 Ukrainian schools. The funds are provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany through the German Development Bank (KFW).

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science.

Preparation for the winter period

In accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1114 of September 26, 2024, each of the selected schools will receive UAH 290,500 to prepare for the winter period.

The full list of schools can be found via the link.

"The common goal of the government and donors is to ensure the continuity of education and create comfortable learning conditions, especially in winter, by strengthening those schools that continue to provide full-time education despite the difficult challenges of war. When distributing funds, the commission emphasized the need to cover as many communities in each region as possible. This made it possible to provide support not only to large communities, but also to smaller settlements. This approach contributed to a more equitable and geographically diversified distribution of resources, which in turn allowed us to meet the needs of more students in different regions," said Nadiia Kuzmychova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.

As part of winterization, institutions can use funds for the following purposes

  • heating, insulation, replacement of windows and doors;
  • purchase, installation and repair of electric and heat generating equipment;
  • repair of engineering networks (water, heating, electrical, ventilation, sewerage);
  • transportation and storage of purchased equipment, spare parts, materials and fuel.

Modernization of school canteens

Some of the funds - up to UAH 83,000 - can be used to repair and modernize school canteens. The funds for catering are being raised at the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science jointly with the Ministry of Reintegration as part of the implementation of the school catering reform in Ukraine initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.

In this way, institutions can contribute to the national nutrition reform. Therefore, the financial assistance can be used for

  • repairing school canteens (food service units);
  • purchase, installation and repair of equipment for school canteens and supplies.

Earlier, Education Minister Lisovyi said that schools lacked 3,300 powerful generators to ensure a full-fledged educational process in the face of power outages.
