Ukraine can become an EU member by 2029 if all necessary reforms are implemented, - European Commissioner Várhelyi
Ukraine will be able to become a member of the European Union in the next five years if it implements all the necessary reforms.
This was stated by European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Várhelyi on Wednesday, October 30, at a press conference in Brussels on the occasion of the presentation of the EU enlargement report, DW writes, Censor.NET reports.
According to the European Commissioner, additional tools have been created for Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkans to "help them accelerate reforms."
"These instruments are called the Growth Plan, the Ukraine Plan, depending on the country. And with this plan, we have made it possible for the Western Balkans, Moldova, and Ukraine to complete reforms to get everything ready and become an EU member by the end of the next European Commission mandate," Várhelyi said.
It is noted that the mandate of the new European Commission will be valid until the end of 2029.
Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that Ukraine has a chance to become a member of the European Union at the end of this decade or at the beginning of the next.
