This year, number of proceedings on execution of Ukrainian POWs increased more than 4 times - Prosecutor General’s Office
In 2024, compared to 2022 and 2023, the number of criminal proceedings opened over the shooting of captured Armed Forces soldiers by ruscists increased more than 4 times.
This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office in response to a request from hromadske, Censor.NET reports.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Prosecutor General's Office and regional prosecutors' offices have provided procedural guidance in 51 criminal proceedings on the murders of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
In previous years, pre-trial investigations were launched in 16 criminal proceedings: 8 in 2022 and 8 in 2023.
It is noted that since the beginning of 2024, pre-trial investigations have been launched in 35 criminal proceedings on the murder of Ukrainian POWs. In particular: in January - 3, in February - 6, in March - 1, in April - 2, in May - 1, in June - 2, in July - 3, in August - 2, in September - 5, in October - 7, in November - 3.
Punishment
Currently, 3 indictments have been sent to court.
This year, the courts of Chernihiv region have handed down two life sentences for Russians who killed prisoners during the occupation of Sloboda and Lukashivka villages in March 2022, the Prosecutor General's Office added.
Earlier, Censor.NET reported that Russians shot two captured soldiers in the Kursk region.
