The European Union is considering imposing sanctions against China because Beijing has supplied weapons to Russia for the first time to be used in the war against Ukraine.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by FAZ.

According to three sources connected with the EU diplomatic circles, the EU's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, informed the foreign ministers of the relevant intelligence data, which testify to the "lethal support" provided by Beijing to Moscow.

"The evidence is overwhelming," said one senior EU official, adding that the response should include all possible tools, including sanctions against Chinese companies, asset freezes, and travel bans on those responsible.

One diplomat said: "China should realize that its position of neutrality looks hypocritical. It is not neutral and does not promote peace, but only feeds the beast."

The decision on sanctions is currently at an early stage of discussion and largely depends on China's response to the allegations. The issue is expected to be discussed at a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday.

At the same time, the United States is also considering sanctions aimed at restricting technology exports to China if it is confirmed that China is involved in military support of Russia.
