Israel finds large stockpiles of modern Russian weapons in Hezbollah’s possession - WSJ
During a ground military operation in southern Lebanon, Israeli forces found significant arsenals of modern Russian weapons used by the Hezbollah terrorist group.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal with reference to Syrian security forces and an Arab official, Censor.NET reports.
As noted, the found weapons include modern Kornet anti-tank missiles manufactured in 2020.
According to the newspaper's sources, these weapons have been transferred to Hezbollah in recent years from Russian arsenals in Syria.
Russia has been supplying weapons to the Syrian army for a long time and controls its own warehouses in the country, the WSJ writes.
The publication notes that earlier Russian weapons possessed by Hezbollah were less modern, and some samples came from the Soviet era.
Instead, Israel's current findings point to newer and more advanced weapons, which turned out to be more than military analysts expected.
These weapons have reportedly significantly enhanced Hezbollah's combat capabilities, allowing it to fight back more effectively even after its leadership was killed in Israeli airstrikes.
Among the captured weapons, in addition to Russian Kornet missile systems, other types were found: "Metis, Konkurs, Fagot and Malyutka.
According to the Israeli military, about 60-70% of the weapons found in the first days of the offensive in Lebanon were Russian-made.
