Ukraine attacks Russia’s territory with long-range ATACMS missiles for first time - media
For the first time, Ukraine used American long-range ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory - an ammunition depot in the Bryansk region of Russia. This happened on the 1000th day of the full-scale war and after the US authorization.
According to Censor.NET, Reuters and CNN reported this with reference to American officials and a Ukrainian source.
According to two American officials, "Ukraine has hit Russia's arsenal for the first time with US-made ATACMS missiles, a major escalation on the 1000th day of the war," CNN writes.
It is noted that the attack took place only two days after the Biden administration gave Kyiv the green light to use longer-range American weapons against targets in Russia.
"The attack marked the first time Ukraine has used longer-range U.S. weapons to hit targets deep inside Russia and shows that Kyiv has wasted no time in using its newly granted authority," CNN adds.
Reuters also reports that Ukraine has used US ATACMS missiles in Russia for the first time, citing US officials.
"The move comes just days after President Joe Biden's administration authorized Ukraine to use the weapons for deep strikes against Russia," the outlet writes.
Explosions in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation
Earlier it was reported that on the night of November 19, the 67th arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation was hit in Bryansk region, and in Rostov region, local authorities reported a drone attack. Later, the General Staff officially confirmed that an ammunition depot in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation had been hit.
Yurii Butusov, Editor-in-Chief of Censor.NET, said that after Biden's authorization, for the first time in history, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck a military facility in Russia with US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on Tuesday at 3:25 a.m., Ukraine allegedly fired six ballistic missiles at a facility in Bryansk. It specified that the US-made ATACMS missiles were used in the attack.
Authorization for strikes on Russian territory
As a reminder, current US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to launch long-range ATACMS missiles at Russian territory.
CNN noted that Biden's authorization to fire long-range missiles at Russia would complicate Trump's plans for a truce.
Axios writes that Biden's lifting of restrictions on long-range strikes applies only to the Kursk region of Russia.
On November 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the United States had authorized Ukraine to strike Russian territory with ATACMS ballistic missiles. However, he refused to confirm or deny the attack on the Bryansk region of Russia.
