Poll: 65% of Germans consider Russia threat to Germany’s security
According to an annual study by the Bundeswehr, support for military assistance to Ukraine is growing in Germany.
This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to DW.
49 percent of the survey participants support the continuation of assistance to the Armed Forces, which is 4 percentage points higher than the figure recorded a year ago.
Only voters of the populist parties Alternative for Germany and the Union of Sarah Wagenknecht, as well as residents of the country who do not have the right to vote, are against military aid to Ukraine.
At the same time, the level of approval of arms supplies to Ukraine largely depends on whether respondents consider Russia a threat to Germany's security. In general, 65 percent of respondents consider Russia's military aggression against Ukraine and Russia's arms buildup to be a danger to Germany. Thus, the Bundeswehr survey refutes the results of other polls that indicate a decline in German support for military assistance to Ukraine.
At the same time, the share of German residents who are ready to defend their country with arms is growing. In the latest survey, 42 percent of respondents confirmed this readiness (3 percentage points more than a year earlier). Among men under the age of 50, this figure was 61 percent, and among women - 21 percent.
46 percent of respondents believe that it is necessary to return universal military service in Germany, while 25 percent categorically reject compulsory military service. More than half of the respondents - 60 percent - believe that the return of compulsory military service will strengthen the country's defense capabilities. 85 percent of respondents said they trusted the Bundeswehr, and 57 percent of respondents supported the demands to increase Germany's defense budget.
