Attack on volunteer in Kyiv because of her Ukrainian language: Accused were released from punishment due to their retirement age
Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Obolon District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv, a court convicted two Kyiv residents who in June this year committed hooliganism against a volunteer (part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) because of her Ukrainian language. The men were released from punishment due to their retirement age.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office.
"Based on the totality of the evidence provided by the prosecution, the Obolon District Court of Kyiv found the defendants guilty of hooliganism committed by a group of people and sentenced them to 2 years in prison with a probationary period of 2 years," the statement said.
As a reminder, the conflict took place in the summer near the entrance to the underground passage on Novokostiantynivska Street. Two pensioners saw the girl and decided to pay her a few compliments, but she did not appreciate the advances.
Not wanting to communicate, the girl replied that she did not understand the men. The answer in Ukrainian provoked the aggression of the drunken pensioners, who began to insult the victim in a foul manner, so she decided to film them on her mobile phone.
Then one of the defendants hit her several times on the leg and also struck her in the nose with his palm. All this happened after his accomplice took the girl's phone away from her. The victim managed to return the phone. After that, the attackers fled the scene.
The court took into account the elderly age of the defendants - 74 and 70 years old.
