EU to step up military support for Ukraine - Pistorius
European partners will increase military support for Ukraine.
This was announced on Monday, 25 November, by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, Reuters reports, Censor.NET informs.
It is noted that the head of the German Ministry of Defence, together with his British, French, Italian and Polish colleagues, discussed how to strengthen defence support for Ukraine after Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election. The meeting took place in Berlin.
Our target must be to enable Ukraine to act out of a position of strength," Pistorius stressed.
According to him, the NATO mission (NSATU) will take over the coordination of Western military assistance to Ukraine in January.
Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also reiterated Pistorius' promise to increase aid to Ukraine. He also said that Europe should invest more in its own security.
"We are obliged today to say it clearly - Europe must increase its efforts when it comes to helping Ukraine but above all... when it comes to its own security. Without higher spending, without awareness in every European society of the times we are living in, everything is nothing", the head of Poland's defence ministry said.
For reference:
NSATU is a security assistance and training structure for Ukraine. It will coordinate the provision of military equipment and training to Ukraine from Allies and partners.
NSATU will operate on the territory of Allies and support Ukraine's self-defence in accordance with the UN Charter.
The decision to establish the NSATU was made by Allied leaders at the NATO Summit in Washington, DC, in July this year.
