Borrell: EU will continue to support Ukraine regardless of US administration’s actions
The European Union will continue to support Ukraine regardless of the policy of the new US administration.
This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"We must continue to work to provide Ukraine with the support it needs. We Europeans are acting regardless of what Mr. Trump wants to do. We have our own commitments and our own capabilities. When we claim to have strategic autonomy, the least we can say and do is to continue to support Ukraine. We are not ending this on the orders of Mr. Trump," Borrell emphasized.
He emphasized that while U.S. actions remain important, the EU should step up its own efforts to help Ukraine's defense.
Borrell also said that Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha is participating in a meeting of G7 foreign ministers to brief them on the situation in Ukraine. "We will renew our commitment to support Ukraine. This is the position of the European Union," he added.
Earlier, Borrell noted that Russia's war against Ukraine has awakened Europe, but has not yet forced it to act at full strength.
