Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a video message: "We will defeat the enemy! It is an honour for me to command such a courageous and strong army!"

Joint Forces Commander Andrii Hnatov stressed that it is the Ukrainian army that is writing the modern history of heroism.

"From Vovchansk to Kupiansk, from Lyman to Chasiv Yar, from Toretsk to Kurakhove - everywhere our soldiers are heroically holding the line of defence, the line of our freedom. We are fighting not only for Ukraine, but also for the world, which believes in the human right to dignity, the right to life, the right to be free.

Today we also remember those who are no longer with us. Those who gave their lives for our country. Their feat will always live in our hearts. We bow our heads to their memory. They gave us the opportunity to continue the fight and talk about the future of our country," he said.

Navy Commander Oleksii Neizhpapa said that on land, in the sky and at sea, the soldiers support each other and work together for the future.

"Each of you is an example of courage, dedication and professionalism, and your service brings us closer to our cherished goal every day. On this day, we also remember those who gave their lives for Ukraine. Their feat will always remain in our hearts," the commander said.

The Commander of the Special Operations Forces Oleksandr Trepak congratulated the soldiers and veterans on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: "At the forefront of this war, hardened in fierce battles with the enemy, you continue to be a role model for Ukraine and protect the entire free world."

Ihor Plakhuta, Commander of the TD Forces, noted that today almost everyone in Ukraine has someone at war - a son or daughter, brother or sister, father, mother, friend, neighbour, classmate.

"Hundreds of thousands of men and women left their peaceful lives to defend their country and their families! So that their relatives could safely walk the streets named after our heroes. To live in a free and independent country. And to see our blue and yellow flag above us, not the disgusting tricolour!" said the Major General.

The Airborne Forces Command noted that today the country honours not just a profession or a duty, but a vocation. A vocation to protect, defend, and uphold the freedom and dignity of our people.

The Ground Forces Command emphasised that for every Ukrainian, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have become a real symbol of resilience, steadfastness, victory and honour: "It is you, comrade brothers and sisters, regardless of rank and position, who cares about the happy future of our children. This is what we are all fighting for together. And we have a duty to win!"

The AFU Unmanned Systems Forces noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not only a powerful army, but also a symbol of invincibility, unity and faith in victory.

"The power of unmanned systems is an integral part of this fight. With innovation, precision and determination, we contribute to the common victory every day, helping to protect every corner of our country," it added.

Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Every year on 6 December, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the Armed Forces. The holiday was established in honour of the adoption of the Law of Ukraine "On the Armed Forces of Ukraine" in 1991.

The Armed Forces Day traditionally sees celebrations, awards for the military and a minute's silence in memory of the fallen soldiers.
