The new OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu hopes that if the process of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia to end the war begins, both sides will use the OSCE's capabilities and tools.

He said this at a press conference following the 31st annual meeting of the OSCE Foreign Ministers Council in Valletta, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

The OSCE is a comprehensive security organization that puts diplomacy above all else. And so I hope that if both sides start the process, they will be able to use the OSCE's capabilities and tools," Sinirlioğlu emphasized, answering a question about a possible role in facilitating a peaceful settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine.

According to him, he realizes that his new job will not be easy.

"There are real and complex challenges facing the entire OSCE region, including the war in Ukraine," he said.

The newly appointed OSCE Secretary General assured that he would do everything possible to release three Ukrainian OSCE staff members - Maxim Petrov, Vadym Golda and Dmytro Shabanov - who have been illegally detained in Russia for almost three years.
