On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klytschko congratulated the military and presented medals "Honor. Glory. State" medals in the Kyiv City Hall.
This is reported on the website of the Kyiv City State Administration, Censor.NET informs.
The awards were given to 62 soldiers. Including volunteers who are fighting in foreign battalions. 15 awards were granted posthumously. Families of the fallen heroes received awards from the capital.
"For more than 10 years, our country has been resisting Russian aggression. The last almost 3 years have seen a particularly dramatic period of our struggle - a full-scale barbaric war with which Russia has invaded our land. Dear Defenders, you risk your lives so that our children can live in a free and democratic country. You protect the European future of our country. We remember and honor all the Heroes who gave their lives in the battles for Ukraine. We help the soldiers who are fighting on the front line today and the veterans who need our attention and support," said Klytschko.
The mayor noted that this year Kyiv has allocated almost UAH 10 billion from the city budget to support its defenders and is constantly looking for opportunities to increase assistance to the military and social support for Kyiv veterans.
"Since the beginning of 2024, we have transferred almost 14,000 UAVs of various types to the frontline from the Kyiv community. We send electronic warfare systems, vehicles, and other necessary equipment. The capital also sent more than 100 new vehicles to the front. And almost 3,000 UAVs of various types, equipment, and Cobra armored cars were sent to the front as charity," Klytschko said.
In addition, he said that Kyiv pays wounded Kyiv defenders 45 thousand UAH, which can be accessed remotely through the "Portal of Defenders". Children of fallen Heroes, disabled parents and wives also receive payments from the city. A comprehensive support center, Kyiv Military Hub, has been created for veterans, where they can get information about all services, benefits, payments, and support in their processing.
According to the mayor, starting next year, Kyiv will co-finance the provision of modern prostheses with high functionality to veterans. The maximum cost paid by the state is up to UAH 2 million. The capital will pay up to 1.5 million more per person.
Kyiv was also the first city in Ukraine to introduce compensation for the purchase of a car for veterans with disabilities. And for a year now, it has been providing compensation in the amount of more than UAH 500 thousand for the purchase of a car to this category of Kyiv residents. And in 2025, the capital will partially compensate for the re-equipment of an existing car for the needs of veterans with disabilities - in the amount of up to UAH 100 thousand, Vitali Klytschko emphasized.
