Sullivan on possible shortage of ammunition in case of war with China

The United States may face a serious shortage of ammunition in the event of a war with China.

This was stated by National Security Advisor to the US President Jake Sullivan, Voice of America reports, Censor.NET informs.

"God forbid that we get into a full-scale war with China. Any war with a country like China, with an army like China's, will lead to a very rapid depletion of ammunition," the White House official said.

Sullivan said that more investment is needed in the country's defense industry and called on US President-elect Donald Trump to focus on strengthening the US military production capabilities.

"A healthy defense industrial base means the ability to recover, to grow, to build during conflict, not just build before or prepare for conflict," said the Biden administration official.

In addition, Sullivan called on the Congress and the new presidential administration to implement Biden's proposal to create a fund for the renewal of ammunition. This initiative provides for the allocation of $500 million a year for the Pentagon to purchase critical munitions if they run out due to wars, including Russia's war against Ukraine.

The official also reminded that due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, the United States has increased the production of 155-mm artillery ammunition to 50,000 per month. It is expected that by the end of Biden's term, their production will increase to 55,000 per month.

Earlier it was reported that the Army Ammunition Plant in Scranton, Pennsylvania, has increased the production of artillery shells by 50% to meet the needs of the Armed Forces.
