Pentagon on possibility of Russian strike with "Oreshnik" on Ukraine: Russia may do it in coming days
The US does not rule out that Russia may strike Ukraine with an "Oreshnik" medium-range ballistic missile in the coming days.
This was stated during a briefing by US Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh, Censor.NET reports.
The US Defence Department spokeswoman noted that earlier Russian dictator Vladimir Putin had publicly stated that Russia intended to launch another experimental "Oreshnik" missile.
"It is possible that Russia may do this in the coming days. I don't have an exact date for you," Singh said.
According to her, the relevant conclusions were drawn based on US intelligence assessments. At the same time, the Pentagon spokeswoman could not say which targets Russia might strike.
She also said that if Russia attacks Ukraine again with the "Oreshnik", it will not change the situation on the battlefield.
"This is just another attempt to cause harm and casualties in Ukraine. We have seen this before. They are trying to use every weapon in their arsenal to intimidate Ukraine," Singh said.
In addition, the official said that Washington would continue to provide its support to Ukraine. In particular, air defence remains one of Ukraine's defence priorities.
"Ukraine continues to receive our support as they fight on the battlefield every day," the US defence spokeswoman added.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Russia may launch another "Oreshnik" medium-range ballistic missile at Ukraine in the coming days.
Russia's "Oreshnik" strike on Ukraine
On 21 November, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia used an intercontinental ballistic missile during a missile attack on the city of Dnipro. The media reported that it could have been a "Rubezh" missile, which is a potential nuclear warhead.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said in an address on 21 November that during the morning attack on Dnipro, Russians allegedly used a new medium-range "Oreshnik" missile.
On 22 November, the Defence Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate said that on 21 November, Russia had struck at Ukrainian territory using a ballistic missile, allegedly from the "Kedr" missile system.
Later, the SSU showed journalists the remains of a Russian missile called "Oreshnik", which hit the city of Dnipro on Thursday.
Putin also threatened to use the Oreshnik missile against Kyiv.
