The Law Enforcement Committee of the Verkhovna Rada has supported the submission of the draft law on registers No. 10242, which provides for liability for journalists, for the second reading.

This was announced by MP from the "Voice" faction Yaroslav Zheleznyak, Censor.NET reports.

"The Law Enforcement Committee supported the draft law on registers #10242 for the second time (i.e. it has already failed twice).

"The provisions against journalists remained. This time, they added the cancellation of "Lozovyi's amendments". But NOT in the correct version," the MP wrote on Facebook.

Draft law on registers No. 10242

AntAC Head Vitalii Shabunin previously reported that the Rada is proposing to adopt draft law No. 10242, which would allow law enforcement to conduct covert investigations, in particular against journalists and media.

Investigative journalist Mykhailo Tkach also called for the draft law to be rejected. According to him, this will allow law enforcement to significantly increase control over journalists' sources and journalists themselves.

On 4 December, the Verkhovna Rada failed to vote on draft law No. 10242 on criminalising unauthorised interference with, sale or dissemination of information processed in public electronic registers. The draft law was sent back for the second reading.
