Rostov region attacked by 30 drones and three missiles. VIDEO
The acting governor of Russia's Rostov region, Yury Slyusar, said that the Ukrainian military attacked several targets in the region on Thursday night with more than three dozen drones and three missiles. One person was wounded by falling drone debris.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Russian media and Telegram-channels.
Slyusar stressed that air defences repelled drone and missile attacks in Rostov-on-Don, as well as in the cities of Bataysk (a suburb of Rostov), Taganrog, Shakhty, Kamensk, Millerovo and Novoshakhtinsk.
"Most of the air targets were neutralised. However, as I have already reported, there was a fire at the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant. Firefighters are continuing to fight the fire," said Slyusar.
Rostov news telegram-channels report that local residents counted several dozen explosions in the area of the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, presumably including explosions from Russian anti-aircraft missiles and drone strikes that hit the target.
Some Telegram-channels suggest that the strike was a combined one, using both drones and missiles, but warn that this information has not yet been confirmed. At least 40 explosions were reported in the area of the refinery.
According to preliminary data, the atmospheric-vacuum distillation unit AVT-6 was damaged.
According to the governor, one person was wounded by the wreckage of a downed drone in a village near Rostov.
Strikes on an oil refinery
The Novoshakhtinsk refinery is the only oil refinery in Rostov Oblast, and Ukrainian drones have attacked it at least three times: in March, June and September this year.
It is noted that this is not the first time the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery has been attacked. In April 2024, 4 drones attacked the refinery. One of them fell on the territory of the plant.
In the early hours of 6 June, explosions were heard at the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery and a massive fire broke out. Later, the then-governor of Russia's Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, confirmed that the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery had been hit by Ukrainian drones again. A short time later, the damage to the refinery was confirmed by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, noting that the attack was carried out by "means of Ukrainian production".
