Poland allocates funds for demining contaminated territories of Ukraine

Poland has signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), under which it has allocated PLN 2.5 million to support demining in Ukraine.

This is reported by the press center of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, Censor.NET informs.

The focus is on the regions most affected by mines and explosive remnants of war.

Part of the funding will be used to engage specially trained sniffer dogs to survey the territories, particularly in Mykolaiv region. The work involves 16 dogs and 8 dog handlers. The rest of the funds will be used to test drones, remote sensing and expand field operations in cooperation with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

"We are deeply grateful to Poland for its generous contribution, which will strengthen Ukraine's security and help restore normal life to our affected communities. This cooperation is an example of the international solidarity needed to overcome the challenges posed by anti-personnel mines. By doing so, we are making Ukraine safer and strengthening global food security," said Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko.

Charge d'Affaires of Poland Piotr Łukasiewicz noted that this contribution demonstrates Poland's solidarity with Ukraine and will help to solve the problems related to landmine contamination: "With this contribution, Poland confirms its unwavering commitment to the security and progress of Ukraine, as well as its solidarity with Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war launched by the Russian aggressor. We are confident that our assistance will accelerate demining efforts and strengthen the institutional capacity necessary to address these challenges while adhering to our common goals."

It was recently reported that nearly $38 billion is needed to clean up priority areas over the next 10 years.
