Arson attacks in the capital

Thus, a 41-year-old car mechanic from a Kyiv service station was detained in Kyiv for setting fire to a local Ukrposhta branch and two Ukrainian military vehicles on the orders of the FSB.

"In order to 'covertly' commit an arson, the defendant used petrol as an incendiary mixture, which he drained from the tanks of private cars that were undergoing maintenance.

Then, in order to destroy the evidence of the crime, the offender cut the bicycle he used to move around the city to reconnoiter potential targets into scrap metal," the SSU said.

The other detainee is a 15-year-old resident of the capital who set fire to another post office and sent a "photo report" of the fire to his Russian curator.

To commit the crime, the young man broke a window of a state institution and poured a flammable mixture on its windowsill.

Later, the National Police showed the consequences of the arson attacks in Kyiv.

Arson in the Carpathian region

The SSU detained an enemy accomplice in Prykarpattia region who burned a military vehicle that had been brought in for repair after performing combat missions at the front.

According to the investigation, the suspect was a 36-year-old gambling addict from the regional centre. The man had previously been prosecuted for theft of private property.

As the investigation established, he hoped to "earn" money by cooperating with the occupiers to replenish his online casino account.

However, instead of "easy" money from the aggressor, all the detainees were served with a notice of suspicion (in accordance with the crimes committed) under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 1 of Article 114-1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the AFU and other military formations during a special period);
  • Article 194(2) (intentional destruction or damage to property by arson).

What do offenders face?

The offenders are in custody. They face up to 10 years in prison.
