Sappers dispose over 630 explosive devices in Kharkiv region over week - SES
Over the course of the week, 28 pyrotechnic teams worked in the Kharkiv region to dispose of 639 pieces of ammunition. At the same time, the high level of mine danger in the region remains critical.
This was announced by Artem Astakhov, head of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service in Kharkiv region, during a briefing at the Kharkiv RMA Media Center, Censor.NET reports.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the SES sappers have surveyed more than 10 thousand hectares of territory, of which 940 hectares have been cleared of mines using specialized vehicles. A total of 108,507 explosive items have been destroyed.
"I draw attention to the high degree of mine danger in Kharkiv region, especially in the de-occupied territories. During the week, one case of a civilian being blown up by an explosive object was recorded, which occurred on December 20 in the village of Solonitsiivka, Kharkiv district. The injured 73-year-old woman was taken to a medical facility. In total, during the full-scale aggression of the Russian occupiers, 95 people died as a result of explosive explosions, 261 sustained injuries of varying severity. I urge the residents of the region to be careful and follow all mine safety rules and the advice of rescuers," Astakhov said.
In addition to de-mining, the State Emergency Service units eliminated the consequences of eight fires caused by shelling in the districts of Bohodukhiv, Kupiansk, Kharkiv, Chuhuiv and the city of Kharkiv. The attacks killed three people and injured 15, including a 12-year-old girl. Residential buildings, high-rise buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged.
As a reminder, in 2024, the area of Ukraine's territories potentially contaminated with explosive hazards decreased to 139,000 km².
