Media outlets cited 17th Brigade of National Guard of Ukraine as reporting on preparation of draft law to lower mobilisation age. Brigade says it is fake
Information about the alleged lowering of the mobilisation age, which was reported by the media with reference to a representative of the 17th National Guard Brigade, is not true.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press centre of the 17th Brigade of the National Guard.
"In connection with the dissemination of inaccurate information that mentions Serhii Lunych, a representative of the 17th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, and his alleged statement on the draft law on lowering the mobilisation age from 25 to 18 years, we would like to inform you of the following:
Serhii Lunych has not made any such comments! He has not been involved in media events or public speeches recently," the statement said.
In addition, as noted, he is not a member of the brigade's command (neither commander nor deputy) and is not an authorised person to comment on draft laws or amendments to them.
His official duties do not provide for access to information on legislative initiatives or their status, let alone predicting their approval.
"We ask media representatives and social media outlets not to disseminate this information, as it is untrue and contains neither the original source nor specific dates, times and places," the brigade said.
It should be noted that on the morning of 24 December, a number of media outlets quoted Serhii Lunych as saying that the 17th Brigade of the National Guard was ready to accept 20-year-olds, and that a bill to lower the mobilisation age had allegedly already been drafted and was awaiting approval.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that signals about lowering the mobilisation age are not an honest conversation. It is important to save the lives of our people, our youth.
