Rating Journalist 2024 from the Institute of Mass Information

The Institute of Mass Information conducted a survey of the media community in all regions of Ukraine to determine the journalists of the year.

This is reported by IMI, Censor.NET reports.

Who was included in the rating "Journalist of the Year 2024"

  • Mykhailo Tkach, investigative journalist, head of the investigative department at Ukrainska Pravda (for the second year in a row, he has topped the peer respect rating);
  • Serhii Nikitenko, Editor-in-Chief of the online media outlet MOST (Kherson);
  • Denys Bihus and his team of investigators at Bihus.info;
  • Yurii Butusov, Editor-in-Chief of Censor.NET;
  • Diana Butsko, journalist at hromadske, war correspondent;
  • Mariia Malevska, journalist of Vіkna.Novyny "ICTV Fakty", military correspondent;
  • Yurii Nikolov, investigative journalist, founder of the project "Our Money";
  • Radio Liberty and its staff;
  • Suspilne Chernihiv and its team;
  • Slidstvo.Info and its team.

According to the survey, investigative journalists working on large projects have the highest visibility in the journalistic community.

"At the same time, there is noticeable attention to war correspondents and leading journalists working in the regions, as well as journalistic teams whose work has had a major impact on the media community and the development of Ukraine. The journalists also recognized the work of online media and radio broadcasters. In the difficult conditions of the war, these media remain one of the most reliable sources of information for millions of Ukrainians," IMI noted.

There are also journalists who are treated with respect by their colleagues but are not in the top ten in terms of the number of mentions:

  • Vitalii Ulybin, Editor-in-Chief of Poltavska Khvylia;
  • Inna Vedernikova, journalist, editor of the internal policy department at ZN.UA;
  • Vitalii Portnikov, journalist and analyst;
  • Ukrainian Radio and its staff;
  • Mstyslav Chernov, filmmaker, videographer, Associated Press journalist;
  • Andrii Tsaplienko, journalist at 1+1 TV channel, military correspondent;
  • Danylo Mokryk, journalist, author of the YouTube blog MokRec;
  • Anna Kalyuzhna, military correspondent;
  • Marichka Paplauskaite, journalist, Editor-in-Chief of the online magazine Reporters;
  • Alyona Yatsyna and the Kordon Media team;
  • Tetyana Troshchynska, Director of Strategic Analysis and Development of Socially Influential Content at UA:PBC;
  • Andriy Dubchak, founder of Donbas Frontliner, war correspondent.

Separately, the journalists who took part in the survey mentioned the journalist Viktoriia Roshchyna, who died in Russian captivity. Victoria specialized in crime, human rights and the judicial system. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, she has been reporting from hot spots and the occupied territories.

The survey was conducted using a quantitative anonymous online survey based on a simple random sample of potential respondents - journalists and editors. A total of 120 responses were received from media professionals from all regions of Ukraine. Of these, 72.5% were women and 27.5% were men. The maximum margin of error is 5%. The survey was conducted on December 1-17, 2024.
