NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on damage to cables in the Baltic Sea

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the North Atlantic Alliance would increase its military presence in the area following incidents involving damage to submarine cables in the Baltic Sea.

Rutte announced this on the social network X after a conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Censor.NET reports.

He said that he had discussed with Stubb the progress of the ongoing Finnish-led investigation into possible sabotage with submarine cables.

"I expressed my full solidarity and support. NATO will increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea," Rutte emphasized.

As a reminder, on December 25, it was reported that the Estlink 2 submarine power cable connecting Finland and Estonia was damaged. Finland does not rule out the possibility of deliberate damage.

Finland is inspecting an oil tanker that may have been involved in the accident with the electric cable. It is likely to be part of Russia's shadow fleet.
