Ukraine has stopped transit of Russian gas - Ministry of Energy
At 07:00 a.m. on 1 January 2025, for the sake of national security, the transportation of Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine was stopped.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the Ministry of Energy.
Ukraine has informed its international partners about this in accordance with the established procedure.
"We have stopped the transit of Russian gas, this is a historic event. Russia is losing markets and will suffer financial losses. Europe has already made a decision to refuse Russian gas. And the European initiative Repower EU envisages exactly what Ukraine has done today," said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
Since 1 January, Ukraine's gas transmission system has been operating in a zero-transit mode for Russian gas. The gas transmission system infrastructure has been prepared in advance to operate in a zero-transit mode and ensure reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers.
