There are positive signals from some leaders regarding peacekeepers in Ukraine

More than half of German residents believe that peacekeepers should be sent to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. However, less than a quarter of Germans support the involvement of the Bundeswehr military in the peacekeeping mission.

According to Censor.NET, this is reported by DW with reference to the results of a survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of the dpa agency.

19 percent of respondents are fundamentally opposed to sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, while 25 percent have not decided on the answer.

At the same time, support for Germany's participation in these peacekeeping efforts is much lower: only 23 percent of respondents are in favor of German soldiers in such a mission, while 33 percent are against the involvement of German troops.

The survey was conducted online from December 20 to 23, with 2,194 people from all over Germany taking part.

Peacekeeping forces in Ukraine

Earlier it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron would discuss with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine in the event of an agreement to end the current phase of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

German chancellor candidate and leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz said that Germany's participation in a peacekeeping mission for Ukraine should be provided for by an international mandate. He also said that such a mandate "should be given in consensus with Russia, not in conflict".
