World karate champion Oleksandr Semeniuk died in war
An athlete, coach and multiple world karate champion Oleksandr Semeniuk was killed in the war.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported on the official Facebook page of the Ukrainian Karate Federation.
"The sad news has shaken the sports community of Ukraine. Oleksandr Semeniuk, an athlete, coach, and multiple world champion in style karate, was killed while performing a combat mission. This was announced today by the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lutsk City Council," the statement said.
It is noted that Oleksandr Semeniuk was known not only for his achievements in the sports arena, but also for his huge contribution to the development of karate in Ukraine. His dedication to sports and desire to improve inspired many young athletes.
"Oleksandr was not just a warrior. For me, he embodied a whole era of Ukrainian karate - the one I looked up to, competed with, and thanks to which I once believed in myself. His path was an example for many: the path of honesty, strength and dignity," wrote Oleksandr Pikulin, Honoured Coach of Ukraine and founder of the Chernivtsi club "Leader".
"The Ukrainian Karate Federation, on behalf of all representatives of the Federation, expresses its sincere condolences to the family, friends and everyone who knew and respected Oleksandr Semeniuk.
His legacy will remain in the hearts of many as an example of a true athlete, warrior and mentor. Ukraine has lost one of its best sons," the federation said.
