Investigation launched into shooting of two Ukrainian Armed Forces prisoners by enemy in Volnovakha district

Russian invaders shot two Ukrainian prisoners of war near the village of Vremivka, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region. The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the war crime.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the Prosecutor General's Office.

"According to operational data, on January 3, 2024, during an assault on the positions of Ukrainian troops near the village of Vremivka, Volnovakha district, the occupiers captured two servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The prisoners were taken out of a dugout at gunpoint and shot point-blank in the head. To make sure they were dead, the enemy fired several more shots," the statement said.

The shooting of prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a grave international crime, the prosecutor's office emphasized.

Under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was initiated in criminal proceedings over a war crime that resulted in the death of people (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and the persons involved in its commission.

As a reminder, according to DeepState, ruscists shot three captured Ukrainian soldiers near Neskuchne.

According to Lubinets, in 2024 alone, the ruscists shot at least 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
