Indonesia officially joined BRICS bloc
Indonesia has officially joined the BRICS as a full member.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to the Brazilian government, Censor.NET informs.
Brazil, which holds the presidency of the bloc in 2025, said that Indonesia's candidacy was approved by the organization's leaders at a summit in Johannesburg in August 2023.
However, Indonesia requested to join the bloc after the presidential elections and the formation of a new government.
"As the largest population and largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia shares with the other members of the group support for the reform of global governance institutions and makes a positive contribution to deepening cooperation in the Global South, which are priority topics for the Brazilian BRICS presidency," the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
