Commander of military unit in Odesa extorted 30% of salary from subordinates: he was detained - National Police. PHOTOS
In Odesa, the police and the SSU exposed the commander of a military unit for bribery. He had been collecting extortion from the military for 7 months. The 31-year-old bribe-taker was detained red-handed.

What have law enforcement officers found?
As noted, law enforcement officers found that the leader extorted 30% of additional payments from his subordinates for performing combat missions, allegedly motivated by the needs of the military unit, in particular for the repair of equipment. For those who refused to pay, the official threatened to create artificial obstacles in the service in the form of identifying non-existent shortcomings in work, unjustified transfers to other units or combat zones.
"In this way, from June to December last year, the commander received more than UAH 400,000 from the personnel. He was detained while receiving a ‘tribute’ for December in the amount of UAH 41 thousand. Investigators conducted authorised searches in the suspect's car and at his place of residence. As material evidence, investigators seized the last illegal extortion, mobile phones and bank cards of the offender," the National Police said.
Suspicion of a bribe-taker
According to the National Police, the businessman was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Based on the evidence collected, he was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The offence is extortion and receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official for not performing any action in the interests of the person providing the unlawful benefit using his or her official position. Under current law, the offender faces 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The court imposed on him a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail. The investigation is ongoing.
