Britain and NATO to hand over 30 thousand FPV drones to Ukraine
The British government has announced the transfer of 30,000 FPV drones to Ukraine, which are being procured as part of the international Drone Capability Coalition.
This was announced by British Defense Secretary John Healey and his Latvian counterpart Andris Spruds during a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense, which took place at Ramstein Air Base, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
The FPV drones, which combine surveillance and strike capabilities, are reportedly funded by the United Kingdom, Denmark, the Netherlands, Latvia and Sweden. These modern drones are expected to significantly enhance the ability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to maneuver past Russian air defense and attack enemy positions and armored vehicles.
International support for Ukraine also includes new funding under the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU), which is administered by the United Kingdom. The total amount of additional funding exceeds £190 million and is distributed as follows:
- 67 million from Denmark for drones, air defense systems and training equipment;
- £59 million from Norway for specialized equipment, including drones and maritime training;
- 43 million pounds from Portugal for drones for intelligence and surveillance;
- 20 million from Sweden for the repair of Archer self-propelled howitzer systems and maritime training;
- 4 million pounds from Germany for maritime training;
- 1 million pounds from Iceland to finance coastal radars.
"The fierce courage of the Ukrainian people continues to inspire the world, and this meeting with more than 50 countries sends a clear message to Putin of the international community's unwavering support for Ukraine," said British Defense Secretary John Healey.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized the need to give Ukraine everything it needs to continue the fight and win.
