Stopping oil transit through Ukraine would be violation of treaty and association agreement with EU - Shmyhal
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Ukraine cannot stop oil transit through its territory.
He said this during an hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Censor.NET reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
" Oil transit through the territory of Ukraine is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the EU on ensuring freedom of transit, and also meets the conditions of the sixth package of EU sanctions," the Prime Minister explained.
According to Shmyhal, stopping oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline would be a violation of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the EU by Ukraine.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Ukraine's violation of its international obligations could be used as a basis for holding the country liable for stopping uninterrupted oil supplies, in particular to Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, and for imposing appropriate financial conditions after international arbitration.
