There is no threat of halting electricity supplies from Slovakia - Shmyhal
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that there is currently no threat of halting electricity supplies from Slovakia.
He said this during an hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Censor.NET reports citing RBC-Ukraine.
Shmyhal noted that Ukraine is in constant contact with the European Commission and other European institutions on this issue.
"Regarding electricity imports. We are in direct contact with the European Commission. As soon as the Prime Minister of Slovakia announced the threat of halting electricity imports to Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy immediately contacted all three institutions: The European Commission, the European Energy Network and the Energy Community. There was a response, we have answers," he said.
Shmyhal also explained the technical aspects of this situation: "In fact, Slovakia and the Slovak power grid are part of the united one. That is, even if they were technically able to close their entrances to Ukraine for repairs for a short period, according to the rules of the unified market, the corresponding amount of electricity would be redistributed proportionally among other supplier countries."
He emphasized that Poland and other neighbors have expressed their readiness to cooperate with Ukraine if necessary, and any decisions on this issue will be made not only by Slovak operators but also by the European Commission.
"We receive electricity. Electricity comes, it is imported, including from Slovakia," Shmyhal summarized.
