Dismissal of Energy Minister Halushchenko

A resolution to dismiss Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko from his post has been submitted to parliament.

This was reported by Inna Sovsun, a member of the Ukrainian parliamentary faction Voice, Censor.NET reports.

"I have registered a resolution to dismiss Halushchenko from the post of Minister of Energy.

A brief background. Today in the parliament, during an hour of questions to the government, Prime Minister Shmyhal said that the completion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP had been agreed with the Americans. I corrected him, saying that we, as members of the Energy Committee, had received a message from the European Commission delegation and the US Embassy in Ukraine, who were concerned that information was appearing in the public space that they were officially supporting the completion of the KhNPP. In fact, there is no support from the partners, and they would like to avoid such manipulations in the future.

Halushchenko took the floor, called the European Commission representatives "middle-class clerks" and said: "Inna, I am very sorry that you are running around the embassies and throwing mud at our energy sector and our country," the statement said.

She emphasized that when a weak person has no arguments, he or she makes personal remarks. But problems begin when this weak person is the Minister of Energy.

"It is very bad for the country that the Minister of Energy is spreading lies that Western partners support the completion of the KhNPP. And it is very bad that from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada he insults not only People's Deputies but also embassy staff, from whom we really need support.

Today's situation is evidence that Halushchenko can no longer even pretend to be adequate and professional. Now he just comes the acid, is rude and burns bridges with international partners," she added.

The People's Deputy also noted that her faction demands that Halushchenko come to the Verkhovna Rada with a report on corruption in the Energy Ministry.

She added that more details about the reasons for Halushchenko's resignation would be in other posts and called on other People's Deputies to support the resolution on Halushchenko's resignation.

At the same time, Voice People's Deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak noted on his telegram channel that the parliament was officially launching the procedure for dismissing Minister Halushchenko.

"My colleague and member of the Energy Committee, Inna Sovsun, together with People's Deputies from different factions, is launching the registration of a resolution to dismiss the Minister of Energy," he said in a statement.

According to him, there are many reasons for this:

  • systemic corruption in the energy sector;
  • ignoring calls at the meetings of the Parliament and Committees/PICs;
  • attempts to push through the corruption scheme of "large nuclear construction";
  • failure to protect part of the energy infrastructure;
  • absolute loss of any reputation among partners;
  • outright lies and manipulations;
  • absolutely unacceptable behavior of the Minister today during the hour of questions to the government.
