Fico threatens to veto military aid to Ukraine at EU level in response to suspension of Russian gas transit
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico threatens to veto the upcoming military aid package to Ukraine from the European Union. He states that this will be a response to the termination of Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory.
Fico's statement was quoted by Dennik N, Censor.NET reports.
"If Zelensky decides to harm Slovakia and the European Union because he thinks he can get away with it, I will veto aid to Ukraine within the EU," the Slovak prime minister said.
Fico said that "Slovakia has to decide whether it will indulge in a passive foreign policy or seek to develop a living space within the EU and NATO."
"The cessation of supplies through Ukraine has led to an increase in gas prices in Europe. That is why I was in Brussels to warn the European Commission that if we do not work on importing gas in a certain volume through Ukraine, we will see a huge increase in gas prices," the politician said.
In addition, the head of the Slovak government said that during his visit to Moscow at the end of last year, he asked whether Russia was ready to supply gas.
"They said yes," Fico added.
