Bill 10242 is being submitted to the Rada again

Bill No. 10242 on strengthening criminal liability for disclosure of information from registers is back on the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada.

This was announced by People's Deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, Censor.NET reports.

He recalled that last year the media community criticized this bill

"Representatives of the majority did not respond to our proposal, as the Committee on Freedom of Speech, to hold consultations with journalists and media experts. That is, they indirectly confirmed that the bill is needed only to close the possibility for investigators to ask uncomfortable questions about government abuses. If the goal is to strengthen the protection of registries, then such a mechanism can definitely be found. Together.

Well, we will put all our amendments together with Yaroslav Zhelezniak and our colleagues from the Voice faction in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for confirmation," Yurchyshyn added.

AntAC Head Vitalii Shabunin previously reported that the Rada is proposing to adopt bill No. 10242, which would allow law enforcement to conduct covert investigative actions, in particular against journalists and media.

Investigative journalist Mykhailo Tkach also called for the bill to be rejected. According to him, this will allow law enforcement to significantly increase control over journalists' sources and journalists themselves.

On December 4, the Verkhovna Rada did not vote on bill No. 10242 to establish criminal liability for unauthorized interference, sale or dissemination of information processed in public electronic registers. The draft law was sent back for a second reading.
