Lithuania will spend about 4% of GDP on defense in 2025
In Lithuania, about 4% of GDP will be spent on defense in 2025.
This was stated by the Minister of National Defense Dovile Shakalene, Censor.NET reports.
"The rapid increase in the defense budget of NATO allies and sustained support for Ukraine is a matter of national security for all of us. Lithuania understands this... We are planning to spend almost 4% of GDP on defense this year," said the head of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry.
Šakalena noted that Lithuania is the largest buyer of U.S. weapons in the Baltic States. "Our purchases from the United States are estimated at $1.3 billion and account for almost 20% of all our acquisitions (in the arms sector)," she said.
"The United States consistently supports the development of our military capabilities. 1 dollar of American aid is returned as 3 dollars of direct investment in the purchase of American-made weapons," the Lithuanian minister added.
Lithuania purchases Javelin anti-tank missile systems, JLTV armored all-terrain vehicles, Black Hawk helicopters, Himars missile and artillery systems, AMRAAM missiles for NASAMS medium-range air defense systems, Switchblade drones, etc. from the United States.
