Ukrainian defense industry has increased production by more than 20 times - Defense Ministry
In the face of Russia's full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian defense industry has increased its production by more than 20 times, while it needs further investment and development of joint ventures.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the website of the Ministry of Defense.
"The Ukrainian defense industry is not fully utilized, there is a lack of funding for capacities. Ukraine can produce more than 4 million UAVs a year, provided that production is fully funded," said Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine for European Integration Serhii Boiev at a meeting of national arms directors of the member states of the Contact Group on Ukrainian Defense at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
At the same time, in 2023-2024 alone, Ukrainian production
- The number of artillery systems has tripled,
- armored personnel carriers - 5 times,
- anti-tank weapons - by half,
- ammunition by 2.5 times.
The Deputy Minister emphasized the need to increase and accelerate the production of equipment and ammunition. He also emphasized the importance of Ukraine's combat experience for the development of innovations and technological improvement of existing equipment.
Ammunition remains the No. 1 need, even with the increase in production. Air defense, heavy machinery, and engineering equipment are potential products of joint industrial facilities," said Serhii Boiev.
He also emphasized that the use of income from frozen Russian assetscould become an additional resource for the Ukrainian defense industry and joint ventures.
In addition, the issue of localization of enterprises engaged in the repair of equipment transferred by partners is becoming even more relevant. This will greatly simplify the logistics chain and save funds that can be redirected as needed.
Serhii Boiev also emphasized that jointly produced and tested weapons on the battlefield can be exported to partners after the war is over.
Earlier it was reported that in 2024, the Ministry of Defense authorized more than 1,300 samples of weapons and equipment for use, 75% of which were made in Ukraine.
