Europe can finance US weapons for Ukraine, - Rutte
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has outlined a strategy for continued support for Ukraine by Western allies and Europe's readiness to take on additional financial commitments.
He said this at an event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Censor.NET reports citing Reuters.
Rutte stressed the critical need to continue military support for Ukraine.
"On Ukraine, we need the U.S. also to stay involved," Rutte said.
According to him, Europeans will be able to pay for American military aid if the new administration of Donald Trump is ready to continue supplying Ukraine from its defence industry base.
"I'm absolutely convinced of this, we have to be willing to do that," Rutte said.
As a reminder, Rutte recently said that he expects new pressure from US President-elect Donald Trump in the debate over the relatively low defence spending of European allies such as Germany.
