The entire chain of command must be held accountable for the failure of defence in Kharkiv region, not just individuals.

Censor.NET editor-in-chief Yurii Butusov said this in an interview with LIGA.net.

"I was very unpleasant to read the official report, which said that the investigation was carried out with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Minister of Defence. But how can this be? It was the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces who appointed these generals and officers to their positions. He was the one who assigned them tasks and supervised their performance. And now he is facilitating the process of putting these people on trial, while he stands aside and facilitates it.

However, his task was not to facilitate, but to respond. He is responsible for making specific decisions. Of course, he cannot stand aside from this investigation. He also has to have a status, he has to be a defendant. This is the logic of events," the journalist said.

According to Butusov, no one is saying that he is immediately guilty, nor are other officials.

"But if we are talking about responsibility, the entire management vertical should be responsible, not just some individuals from this management vertical," he added.
