Mark Rutte elected as new NATO Secretary General

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that Russia cannot demand that Ukraine or any other state not join the Alliance.

Censor.NET reports his words with reference to European Pravda.

In response to a question about Ukraine's future in NATO in the context of the expected negotiations on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war, Rutte said: "There is a commitment that Ukraine will become a NATO member. The question now is how exactly this will happen."

According to him, the main task for Western partners is to help Ukraine get the best possible negotiating position and make sure that a potential peace agreement will ensure a truly lasting peace.

"And we have to make it clear that Putin has no veto power and no say in who can become a NATO member in the future. Only if he wants to be in NATO himself - but I don't think he does, so he has nothing to say about it. We have to make this very clear," the Secretary-General emphasized.
