President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that it was impossible to determine the real number of people killed in Mariupol. According to available information, Russian occupation forces killed about 20 thousand people in the city.

The head of state said this in an interview with Il Foglio, Censor.NET reports.

"I think it's really impossible to understand this without appropriate work right there on the spot. We had information that the Russians killed somewhere around 20,000 people, but I can't say that specifically," Zelenskyy said.

In addition, the President said that it is still unknown how many people, including children, were taken out of Mariupol by Russians.

"We have returned four thousand. And there are thousands more," Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy also said that the Ukrainian side is aware that the Russians killed, imprisoned, and tortured people who protested against the Russian occupation in Mariupol.

"It could be hundreds, or thousands, or tens of thousands. In addition, there were hostilities and many people were wounded or killed in the rubble," the head of state said.
