Joint EU statement on non-recognition of the results of the presidential election in Belarus was blocked by Hungar

Hungary refused to support the joint statement of the EU countries on the rejection of the results of the presidential "elections" in Belarus.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by Radio Liberty with reference to interlocutors in Brussels.

Representatives of the EU countries planned to issue a joint statement on the non-recognition of the elections in Belarus, in which dictator Alexander Lukashenko won for the seventh time with almost 87% of the vote.

Lacking the signatures of representatives of all 27 EU countries, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and European Commissioner for Enlargement and Development Martha Kos issued their own statement.

The officials criticized the elections in Belarus as undemocratic, called for the release of all political prisoners, including the EU delegation, and hinted at the possibility of new sanctions against Minsk.

First, the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty reported that the draft statement was not supported by Hungary and Slovakia. Subsequently, Bratislava approved the document.

As a reminder, 86.82% of voters allegedly "voted" for Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko, who seized power in the country, in the fictitious "elections" held the day before.

At the last minute, Hungary agreed to approve the extension of sanctions against Russia.
